Transphobia / Transmisia
- Transphobia: The systemic or individual aversion, fear, hatred, or prejudice toward transgender and nonbinary people, often manifesting as social exclusion, legal discrimination, harassment, or violence.
- Transmisia: A term used by activists and scholars as an alternative to "transphobia". Derived from the Greek misia ("hatred"), it emphasizes that hostility toward trans people stems from conscious or systemic prejudice and hatred rather than a clinical psychological fear or panic response (a "phobia").
Examples include, repeatedly misgendering and misnaming someone after they have told you their prefered names and pronouns. Completely ingoring your sibling's transition and asking invasive, private questions, without first aknowledging or accepting their name and pronouns.
